Welsh Rarebit Lamb Kabobs Hatfield Railway Hatfield Manor (Old Home Place) Scene from Train We departed Wales for London.  An uneventful trip.  Upon arrival in London, we switched trains and traveled north to Hatfield, England.  A beautiful home, if you like mansions.  Not unlike the home we have in Elmore County.  My brother wanted me to pick up 6 cups for him from there.  They are very proud of their cups.  Afterwards we went to Ely, England.  About 30 minutes from Mildenhall.  Tomorrow we will go to Mildenhall and fly home Sunday.  There are 3 flights to U.S. on Sunday and 2 on Monday.  We did have to make a decision though...they had a flight to Spain, leaving in the morning....Spain or the U.S.A.  Our grandchildren asked when are Granna and Grandaddy coming to see us?  Spain will wait...our grandchildren will not.......This our last blog entry...See you in Alabama...until next time....

We are enjoying our visit to Wales.  It is one of those unexpected pleasant surprises.  The people are very friendly, the accommodations are great and the food is very good.  Last night I had a meal of Steak and Braines ale Pie.  Linda had Chicken and Leek Pie. They reminded me somewhat of the beef pot pies and the chicken pot pies I used to eat before I got married.  I just did not know I was eating Celtic food 40 years ago. Medieval Church Medieval Church Linda;s Chicken Pot Pie Cardiff Bay Air raid Shelter in castle Linda in the stocks Castle Keep Today we toured the castle, the city,  the waterfront, and the Market.  We had a very good Welsh breakfast at the hotel.  Eggs are eggs, but I did not eat the baked beans for breakfast.  For lunch, Linda had potato and leek soup and I had Cawl (a lamb stew).  Tonight   we had a full Welsh dinner.  Lamb koftas, Beef Pie, Welsh Rarebit,  Calamari, Sausage & Yorkshire pudding along with fajita spiced chicken wings.  No dessert. Train to Wales Our Hotel, Angel Hotel Information, Cardiff castle Jerry in Pub Pub, Jerry's in Angel Hotel Lobby Linda and I checked out of Mildenhall and took the train back to London, then took the Great Western Railway to the western UK, on our way to Cardiff.  While in London a Brit asked me about the 4th of July.  I asked him if they celebrated it over here and he said it was just another work day.  We traveled about 4 hours by train, at speeds up to 118mph. Speedometer posted speeds for passengers.  A very pleasant journey.  We made our stop in Cardiff and checked into the Angel Hotel.  It is located across the street from the Cardiff Castle, a former Roman fort, a former Norman Castle.  A former castle for whoever was calling the shots.  We were excited about exploring Cardiff, enjoying the Welsh culture and tasting their cuisine.
