Heading for Texas

Image
We have had a fun 3 weeks. Spent the first two with Jerry & Linda touring around Europe.  Pat and I have spent the last week in Italy.  We have seen some pretty sights and met some nice people on our travels.  I have borrowed Jerry's "Blog" for the past  week and this will be my final post on his blog. I have enjoyed sharing some of our pictures with you. Hope you have enjoyed it as much as I have. We leave tomorrow morning for our flight home. We said goodbye to our hotel in Rome and have moved to another close to the airport. We'll be seeing you!

Visiting the Colosseo

Image
After visiting the Forum, it was time to check out the Colosseo (Colosseum).  There wasn't nearly as much walking as in the Forum.  The Colosseum would hold between 50,000 to 70,000 people for their entertainment. It had a wooden floor with sand/dirt on top of the floor. (Sounds like what we do for a Rodeo.) I wonder who was the copycat? Visiting the Roman Forum

We spent over 3 hours visiting Foro Romano (Roman Forum).  There is quite a lot to see. I will post additional pictures on Facebook. Pat inside the Forum Ruins   Heart shaped pool   Roman street   more ruins   Looking at the Colosseum from the Forum Pat & Larry in the Forum

Leaving Sorrento Part II

Image
I didn't get all the pictures I wanted to show on the last entry.  So, let's try again. Before we left, we took a walk to the town and then returned to our hotel for one final goodbye drink.  This is one beautiful place! You can swim or lay out.  The water is clear & blue!   Pool at our hotel.  There are several pools stacked on each other.   View of Sorrento from terrace by the pool Lemon tree

Leaving Sorrento

Image
Today was our last day in Sorrento.  We left  Sorrento this afternoon and went back to Rome.  However, we had the morning free, Pat and I did a walking trip in the town. Then back to our hotel for a drink by the pool while we waited for our bus back to Rome. Lemons and Oranges are all over Sorrento. Their trees (especially oranges) line the streets.  They make a drink here (and sell it by the bottle) called Limoncello (sounds like lemon jello with a c instead of a j).  You don't need a full shot of this! It is strong! Here are some pictures and others will be on Facebook.  Just show me as your friend and you can see them, also. Orange Trees   Lemon Trees   Limoncello   Orange trees on the street

Dinner at Capodimonte

Last night my camera took a rest and had to be charged. Here is tonight's dinner with a picture of Sorrento I took  while sitting at our dinner table. Our Hotel     First Course   First Course   Main Course   Main Course   Dessert     Sorrento from Dinner Table

Sorrento, Capri, Blue Grotto, Anacapri

Image
Yesterday, after leaving Pompeii we went to Sorrento.  Today we left Sorrento and went to Capri, the Blue Grotto and Anacapri (Ana Capri). There is one road on the island of Capri and two towns - Capri and Anacapri. After we docked in Capri we took another boat to the Blue Grotto.  There we got on a smaller boat, only 4 people at a time and went into the Blue Grotto. You must lay down on the boat to get inside. Then returned to Capri and headed for Anacapri for lunch and shopping. Great day and returned to our hotel for a nice dinner. Rome

Image
Pat and I had a great day in Rome. We walked around the Colosseum (depends on the spelling). Then we walked around the Forum area.  (We will be back in Rome for Saturday and Sunday and tour inside both of these.) We visited Trevi Fountain. Yes we threw coins in the fountain.  This is our 3rd visit here. The saying is true - throw coins in the fountain and you will return.  Then we made our way to the Spanish Steps  before heading back toward our hotel. Rome is a nice place to visit but don't drive in the city. Tomorrow we are going south on a tour (since my tour guide went to Alabama) to  the southern part of Italy. This is the first time on our trip I have paid for a tour guide other than free drinks for my brother.  When we get back Friday night we will again be our own tour guides. Some pictures here and some on Facebook. Go to my site on facebook and see more pictures. I haven't gotten the hang of this blog thing yet. Not sure how many pictures you should post here. Pat wai...
