Musee d'Armie Day 4 04-27-2012

Image
Today the wives went shopping and  and the guys went to tour the Invalides Hospital, Napoleons Tomb and the Army Museum.  Said to be the finest museum in the world with artifacts dating back to when wars started, up to the 2nd World War. Tomorrow we head for Normandy.  I do want to share with you something that happened at supper.  Amanda wanted a pizza without mushrooms.  Harry ordered a glass of wine.  He spoke to the waiter and pointed at the menu, saying in English, no mushrooms on my wife's pizza. Just bring me a glass of wine.  The waiter said in french, that he understood.  Then he delivered Amanda her pizza with mushrooms and Harrys wine, along with a pizza with a double order of mushrooms.  Language barrier or language gap?

Springtime in Paris, day 3, 04-26-2012

Paris is certainly every thing we knew it would be.  A very large metropolitan city, with an abundance of great restaurants and sites to see.  Yesterday was busy, as today will be.  On the agenda, the hop on-hop off bus, Lafayette Square and fine dining.

City of Light Day 2 04-25-2012

Upon arrival at our hotel, we stored our luggage and began exploring Paris.  The days activities include the Eiffel Tower, a scenic boat ride on the Seine River, the Louvre and a gourmet meal in a Parisian restaurant.  The Escargot and Steak Tartar were to die for.  Linda, Dorothy and Amanda had  "croque monsier" for dinner.  It reminded me of a ham and cheese sandwich, but it was French ham and cheese. I did add a picture of Napoleon in Moscow.  Looks cold to me.

Behind the curtain, Day 1, 4/24/2012

We traveled to Atlanta and boarded our Delta flight to Europe, retracing the route of Charles Lindbergh, those many years ago.  It took us 8  hours.  When we boarded the plane, with much anticipation, of the amenities provided for us by Delta, we walked through the first class section, noting the recliners, comforters and drinks everyone was enjoying.  Then we went behind the curtain and reality hit us in the face.  We had the "sardine" experience.  We were also told, in the interest of security, to stay on our side of the curtain.  If we had to use the facilities, use tourist, rather than 1st Class.  What used to be called customer service pales in comparison to today's air travel.  What Delta does to the inflight meal borders on criminal.  Whoever comes up with these meals should have to eat them.  Enough of this, after a fitful night of no rest, dreaming about what life must be on the other side of the curtain, we arrived in Paris.  The adventure begins now. We were me...

We have arrived at the airport.  We have checked in, cleared security and are awaiting to board our flight.  Then we are off to Paris.  We are scheduled to arrive in Paris at 6:10 in the morning or about the time everyone is going to bed here.  Hopefully we will have an uneventful flight and will report back from France.
