San Marino, San Marino, Day 09, 07/11/18
San Marino, a city within a country. Officially known as the Republic of San Marino. It is a small micro state (24 square miles) surrounded by Italy. It is located on the northern peninsula of Italy on the northeastern side of the Apennine mountains. It became a republic on September 3, 301 and its independence was recognized by the Papacy in 1631.
We took a drive through the Apennine mountains to the Adriatic Sea and drove along the coast to the base of the mountains below San Marino. We parked our car and took an aerial tram to the top of the mountain. The drive through the mountains was very pretty and the views from the city were spectacular. We toured the city, had a lunch at the Terrace restaurant, had our passports stamped, and drove back to Cortona. It was a nice day trip. Tomorrow will find us in the Cinque Terre region.
