Medieval Fortress, Pasta and Wine, Day 06..07/09/18

Another day in Tuscany...so many Tuscan villages---so little time.  A few years ago Linda and I had a trip to the Tuscany region with Ricky and Cathy Mobley.  While on that trip, we rented an apartment in the small hilltop village of Montefollonico.  While there we had a great lunch at the Gobbi 13 restaurant.  The Chef prepared lunch at our table side.  He mixed pasta in a Pecorino cheese wheel and served it then.  A great meal then and a wonderful meal today.  It was on my list of things to do.  Another great meal.
After lunch we drove a few kilometers to Montepulciano to make sure we knew the location of the restaurant where we had reservations for dinner tonight.  While there, the ladies went shopping and Harry and I located the restaurant.  At the restaurant we ran into an Alabama graduate and his family.  After we got a few Roll Tides and War Eagles out of the way we had a very nice discussion
about the Kick Six game and the Miracle at Jordan Hare.  Friendly people.  We met up with Linda and Amanda and drove to another hilltop village, Montalcino.  This is another city that saw its early beginnings in the Etruscan period.  The first church was built here in year 900 and a tremendous fort was built in 1371.  It still stands today.  Today it is most famous for being the home of  Brunello di Montalcino wine,  Very good, very expensive.
After touring the city and the fort we returned to Montepulciano for dinner at the Osteria Aquacheta steak house.  They did not have a Green Egg grill, but they cooked a great Steak Florentine.  Sitting next to us was a very nice couple from Toronto.  It was a fun night.  Look at the pictures and see what a Steak Florentine looks like.
