We had a quiet evening in the villa last night.  We went to the local grocery store bought a couple of bottles of a French Bordeaux Superior wine.  You  can imagine my surprise when I checked out and found that this excellent French wine went for 3.50 euro per bottle.  When in France do as the French do,  so I  got another bottle of wine.
When I am at home I get up every morning and meet Jerry Hicks at the Impact gym and we walk on the treadmill for an hour.  We both have Fitbits and keep track of each other.  We want to make sure the other one is not slacking off.  Jerry Hicks has pulled ahead of me.  He took off Sunday and gave me a chance to catch up.  I passed him yesterday and then got up early this morning and walked into Menerbes.  So now he has to catch up.
Roman bridges, lavender fields, vineyards, gelato, cute French villages.... our mission today.  Our first village of the day was Roussillon. This village is located in the Luberon, situated at the base of Monts du Vaucluse.  It is considered one of the most impressive villages in France. The Romans mined ochre here when they ran the show and ochre is still mined here today.  We had lunch here and moved on to the next village,  Bonnieux, then to  Lourmarin, and our last village, Apt. It was like walking through history.
Along the way, we stopped at Pont Julien.  This is a bridge that was built by the Romans in the year 300 BC and has been in use until 2015 when a new bridge was built next to the Roman bridge. It was replaced, not because it was unsafe, but in order to preserve history.  We saw numerous lavender fields and vineyards.  We also stopped in Lourmarin for gelato. They have a lavender flavored ice cream here.  I did not try it, maybe later.  When I finish this article, I will join my traveling partners on the patio for a debrief of today's events and determine tomorrow's agenda.  I am confident it will be related to cute French villages, French cuisine, and lavender fields.
