Jingzhou

Day 5, March 10, 2017

There is an old saying in China:"Guan Yu lost Jingzhou due to negligence — he suffered a major setback as a result of negligence." I think this saying means “lack of planning on your part, does not create an emergency on my part. It has nothing to do with this trip report, I just thought I would share it with you.
Today we left Wuhan and drove to Jingzhou. This city, home to over 6,000,000 people, is one of the ancient cities of China. Its history goes back 6,000 years ago. While in Jingzhou we had an opportunity to walk the original walls that protected the city and visited a museum that showed their recorded history. Before we left to go to our ship, we stopped off for lunch. Naturally it was another Chinese restaurant. I don't believe that I have mentioned rice to you. On the flight over we had pork with rice and seafood with rice. Breakfast was eggs with rice, lunch was pepper steak with rice, dinner was mushu pork with rice. You get the idea. Rice goes with everything.
Our national guide, James Chin. He will be with us until we leave Vietnam.
On the road to Jingzhou
At the old gate of Jingzhou
We boarded the bus for our ship, but unfortunately the lock was closed for maintenance and we had to ride the bus for 3 hours to get to the ship. I was talking to my brother, Larry, and he told me that one of our high school classmates Kenneth Kearley lives in China. Larry sent an email to Ken and then Ken emailed me his Chinese telephone number. I called Ken from the bus and found out that where he lived was our destination at the end of the cruise. Chongqing.

Our group of 14 travelling together. We will part company when we depart Saigon for home.
When we got off the bus, prior to boarding the ship, we were met by numerous Chinese women selling beer and assorted souvenirs. I told the ladies that I just was not interested but “you see that gentleman over there? His name is Mr. Hankins. He said that the first thing he wanted to buy when he got off the bus was beer. Check with him.” They surrounded Jerry like the Indians at Custer's last stand. Why did I not have my camera ready? Talk about a photo op.

Hankins says he was a warrior in his previous life.
We boarded the ship, checked in, and went to our room. A long day today, looking forward to tomorrow.
