Ancient History of Beijing

Day 2, March 07, 2017

After a full nights sleep, we met with our Sinorama guides at 0730 to begin our introductory tour of the history of China. Our stops today include the Temple of Heaven (constructed in 1406), Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City. We had lunch in a local Chinese restaurant, followed at the end of the day by a traditional Chinese dinner. (with Peking Duck).

It was a long day. Bejing has 24,000,000 people living here. It is a very modern city in a very ancient location. We were told about the transformation this society has undergone in the last 30 years and the hopes for the future. Our tour group consists of Canadians, Australians, British, and the United States.

We did a lot of walking and learned quite a bit. At the end of the day we were all very tired and ready for a rest. Wednesday should be better, as our body adjusts to the time changes.

Tomorrow we shall go to visit the Great Wall of China. It was built to keep the Huns and other nomadic tribes out of China. I will let you know how it worked for them.
