A good day. We located and viewed the Madonna & Child, toured the church, and explored Brugge. We had a great lunch, topped off with Belgian Chocolate Mousse. (See picture)
After lunch we took a driving tour into WWI. We drove the route from north to south, along the Eastern Front. Over 500,000 soldiers perished along this line. The route is marked with monuments and cemeteries. We stopped at one cemetery, that happened to be where the poem "In Flanders Field" was written. We also had the opportunity to view Belgian and German fortifications along the battle front.
As we paused to reflect on on the days' events, over assorted cheeses and chocolates and wines, (I refer to these wines as Jerry Hankins' Wine). He wanted me to be sure and bring him a bottle home. All he said he wanted was the bottle.
Tomorrow we are off to Bastogne and then to a castle on the Rhine. More later.
