Dinan, Day 08, may 1, 2012

We departed Chateau Vouilly and headed south, with stops in Grainges and St. Lo.  Grainges was the scene of a massacre of 20 US soldiers by a German Army Unit after a fierce battle covering several days.  The US soldiers had been wounded and left behind when the US forces retreated.  A monument was erected in the village.  St. Lo. was the site of the US breakout from the bocage country after several weeks of stubborn resistance by the Germans.  Afterwards, we continued on to Dinan.  A lovely medieval village in the Brittany area of France.  A must see place for any American tourist traveling to France.

Before coming to France, I had always heard comments about the French being standoffish and unfriendly to Americans.  We have found this is untrue.  The French, either in Paris or the country have been very friendly and very helpful.  We are basically illiterate in a foreign country.  On more than one occasion their unsolicited help was offered to put us on the right track.  This is a great trip, the weather is beautiful, the sun is shining and the temps are in the mid 60's.  It rained the first few days we were here.  That went away, replace by sprintime weather.
When we got to Dinan, we had the opportunity to view the "Tour de Brittainy".  A smaller version of the "Tour de France".  Very exciting.
