D Day, Day 6, 04-29-2012

We arrived in Normandy last night.  After a dinner of French wines, assorted breads, and cheeses, we retired for the night with plans for the next day.  A cold, windy, rainy day in April... We went to Ste. Mere Eglise, saw where PFC John Steele (aka Red Buttons) was hanging from the church steeple and had his boot heel shot off in "The Longest Day".  We then toured the Airborne Museum and headed for Utah Beach.  We visited Pont du Hoc, where the Army Rangers scaled a vertical cliff against incredible odds to secure a vital position for the invading forces.  Afterwards we went to Omaha Beach and ended up at the Omaha National Cemetery.  The wind must have been blowing 50 kts, with temps around 45 to 50 degrees.  Any American should make an effort to visit these locations.  If it does not make you proud of our country and our servicemen, then nothing will.
The picture with the black cross is from the German Cemetery.  The gun pit picture is from Pont du Hoc.
Point clarification...Amanda pointed out that the US correspondent I said was at Chateau Vouilly, Mike Kappa, was in fact Robert Cappa. I stand corrected.
