Day 4, Journey through the West 07/14/2010

We got on the road this morning and proceeded west, toward the"Badlands" and the Wall drugstore. An interesting place, it is. It's been a landmark in Wall, S.D. since the '30's. A must stop for all tourist passing by. Linda and I had lunch there. I had, what else, a buffalo burger. very good. After departing Wall we drove by the Badlands on our way to Mount Rushmore. Certainly an engineering marvel by today's standards, even more so back in the '20's. Then we went to see the Chief Crazy Horse monument. It is still a work in progress. They have completed the face. When completed, it will be taller than the Washington monument and all four presidents at Mt. Rushmore will not be as big as the head of Chief Crazy Horse. I will be on the space shuttle to the moon before they finish that mountain. Been working on it since the '40's. Don't waste your money.

Then we paid $12.00 to enter the Custer State park. They said they had a large Buffalo herd in the park. I wanted to see a Buffalo. After riding in the park for an hour, all I had seen was 3 antelope and a mangy mule deer. I told Linda, if Jerry & Mary Ann Hankins followed us in the park, they would probably be run over by a Buffalo stampede. Then I went around the next curve and there was a whole herd of Buffalo. We made pictures till we got tired of making pictures. I don't know what I am going to do with all these Buffalo pictures. I did get hungry though. We drove back into Custer and I had a Buffalo steak with a very good Cabernet. All in all, it was a Buffalo kind of day. We ended the day in Gillette, Wyo

A good day.

Jerry
