Day 3, American Journey 07/13/2010
Today started out in Bloomington, IL. We went to several areas significant in the history of the U.S. Initially, we were on Route 66. After a short ride(just for the experience) over to the interstate. Near Galesburg, Il. is located the birthplace of Wyatt Earp. Desoto, Ia is also important. It is the birthplace of the Duke, John Wayne. We entered Iowa. There was corn in front of us, corn in back of us and corn on both sides of us. I never saw so much corn in my whole life. America should never run out of corn. That is the reason I posted the picture of the "Corn Palace". Although it is located in Mitchell, S.D. They grow corn here too. We drove all the way across Iowa, a beautiful state and joined the trail of the Lewis-Clark expedition. If only they had a Tahoe and an interstate, their life would have been so much easier and they could have gotten to the west coast faster. In Sioux City is located a large monument and petty park, in honor of Sgt. Floyd. He was the only member of the expedition to die. He had stomach pains (severe I might add). A friend of mine, Geoff Darling, (a highly decorated Vietnam Helicopter Pilot) whom I had the priviledge of flying with in Vietnam, when told we were driving to Alaska, said you know, when you get there you have to turn around and comeback? Geoff picked that up very quickly. We are on the outer edge of the American West. Tomorrow we will continue our journey into the Badlands.
No Bears sighted...
