Day 09 ALCAN Highway 07/19/2010

We left Prince George this morning and drove north through the mountains toward Dawson Creek. Dawson Creek is located at Mile Post O, the beginning of the Alaskan-Canadian Highway. The construction of this highway was the engineering marvel of WWII. It was completed in less than a year. It stretches for 1422 miles ending at Delta Junction, YUK, on the Alaskan border. There is an abundant of wild life along the route. There are many signs cautioning the driver of Moose, Elk, Bear and Deer. On to days trip we saw one grey wolf, 2 large deer and one bear. The wolf ran out in front of us on the highway and took off before Linda could take a picture. The bear and deer were grazing along the highway. We crossed the Continental Divide this morning and entered the Northern Rockies.

Today was uneventful, except I almost made a terrible mistake. After I loaded the Tahoe with our bags at the hotel, I was taking the luggage cart back to the lobby. Linda stopped me and said: Are you not going to put my cosmetic bag in the SUV? Certainly I was. So I did.

Technology is a wonderful thing. There I was, traveling to the far reaches of the North American Continent, using my GPS to keep me heading in the right direction and as a Auburn fan wanting information about the SEC, listening to the Finbaum show, while in British Columbia. Linda said the best part of that show she liked was when they played "closing time" and went off the air.

Tomorrows journey takes us through more mountains and promises of many wild life spotting's and breath taking scenery.

Until tomorrow....Jerry
